Directorate General of Customs celebrates International Customs Day, January 26, amid distinguished customs achievements.

Under the patronage of the Colonel-General Director of Customs, the Royal Oman Police celebrates the International Day of Customs.

Royal Oman Police celebrated yesterday morning Customs Day, which comes this year under the slogan “Scaling up Customs Digital Transformation by Embracing a Data Culture and Building a Data Ecosystem”.

 The ceremony was held at the headquarters of the Directorate General of Customs in Muscat under the patronage of Colonel Saeed bin Khamis Al Ghaithi, Director General of Customs.

The ceremony began with a speech delivered by Colonel Saeed bin Khamis Al Ghaithi, Director General of Customs, in which he explained that the Royal Oman Police, represented by the Directorate General of Customs, continues the process of development and modernization in various aspects of customs work, noting a number of steps that the Directorate General of Customs has activated during the past period in an effort towards facilitating customs procedures and simplifying the flow of goods confronting  Corona pandemic and its effects on the movement of trade exchange.

Director General of Customs also referred to a number of initiatives launched by the Directorate General of Customs, most notably commence of the remote clearance service, the acceptance of copies of documents in the event it is not possible to bring the original documents, acceptance of the written guarantee as an alternative to the financial guarantee, and the adoption of the indication of origin installed on goods in case it is not possible to bring the origin certificate, launching electronic air waybill and commence of the safe customs passage initiative between sea and airports, free zones and customs warehouses. Royal Oman Police also modernized the system of automated inspection devices by supplying and installing a number of them at various customs ports, to enhance the security role with the presence of trained cadres.

Digital customs film

 This was followed by the screening of the movie (Digital Customs), a film that monitors the digital transformation of the Royal Oman Police represented by the  Directorate General of Customs in recent years, most notably the electronic facilities and services provided to the commercial community, the indicators and figures achieved by the electronic Bayan system in improving customs performance and the techniques and systems that enhance, the movement of trade exchange and reduce inspections according to a customs risk management system in accordance with the variables of global trade movement and competition in attracting investments and strengthening the fields of industry and logistics.

Oman Customs Magazine

 After that, the fourth issue of (Oman Customs) magazine was launched, which is a magazine concerned with customs work in the Sultanate, in addition to, other related aspects such as trade, economy, and security aspects, given that customs are the first line for the nation from risks and threats in their various forms and an important economic resource for national income. It is issued by the Directorate General Customs on an annual basis and includes a group of chapters, the most prominent of which are customs news, Gulf customs, issue file, meeting issue, statement, logistics, customs affairs, tariffs and statistics.

Manifest and Goods Segmentation transfer manual:

The manual for the transfer of the manifest and the division of goods was launched, which aims to organize and facilitate customs procedures related to the import and export of goods that are on a means of transport for more than one owner so that the data of the main cargo (manifests) are converted into subsidiary shipping documents for the division of goods to their owners. 

Encyclopedia of customs curricula

This was followed by the inauguration of the Encyclopedia of Customs Curricula, which includes 11 customs training curricula focusing on customs and administrative knowledge of interest to the officer, which is an entry point for customs sciences, auditing, tariffs according to the harmonized system, assessment, skills and techniques of customs clearance, customs procedures, and commitment and combating customs smuggling.

Honoring the Outstanding

 At the end of the ceremony, the Colonel, Director General of Customs, the sponsor of the occasion, honored the glorified officers and individuals in the Directorate General of Customs with a certificate of proficiency from the World Customs Organization, and (Al-Wajajah) as the best customs port for the year 2021. The best customs clearance company (LC Services Corporation) was honored. The best customs brokerage agents were honored. An entity that has been electronically linked with the Bayan system is the Agricultural Quarantine Department of the Ministry of Agricultural Wealth, Fisheries, and Water Resources. Import and Export Bahwan Company for Logistics Services in the field of transportation.
